Palm Beach Symphony

When the Palm Beach Symphony approached Argonaut Productions about working together on a video storytelling project, they weren’t looking for short-term results. A world-class symphony requires a lot of resources and that requires considerable funding. But fund-raising wasn’t the most pressing issue that Palm Beach Symphony wanted to address. 

When we asked about the goals for the video project, Palm Beach Symphony told us that they were looking to increase their relevance to the community. Specifically, they were hoping to energize their engagement with the youth of the Palm Beach community. They were focused on awareness-raising and targeting a specific audience. The challenge we faced was finding a way to demystify classical music.

Symphony orchestras are big and to anyone who isn’t familiar with classical music they can seem foreign and complicated. The Palm Beach Symphony needed a video that would help to break through that barrier so that they could reach younger audiences.

The plan we came up with was to let the individual musicians who made up the orchestra speak to the audience in their own words. The video shows viewers that the musicians are people and that they have much in common with them. The result is a video that extends a warm invitation across an imaginary barrier to participation.
